1INDUSTRIAL GREENHOUSE SCREENING

INDUSTRIAL GREENHOUSE SCREENING

Protect your crop when it's hot. Save your money when it's cold. Shading systems can save up to 60% of heat.

The primary factors for the growth of every plant are light, temperature, and water. Light plays a crucial role, but do you know what to do if there is too much light?

In this article, we will discuss why it's important to use a screening system; what risks arise if you do not use screening in a glass greenhouse.

WHAT TO DO WHEN THERE IS TOO MUCH LIGHT?

During the summer months, there is a lot of direct sunlight. If plants are not protected, photosynthesis and other plant growth processes stop. When the temperature of the surrounding environment and tissues becomes too high, all the water consumed by the plant is used to cool the plant tissue.

In this case, plants work not to bear fruit but to survive. You, in turn, get a reduced harvest, which means – reduced profits.

To create a comfortable climate that will preserve your income, a number of systems are used, among which the main one is the screening system.

For different types of crops at different stages of vegetation, it is necessary to reduce the intensity of sunlight and heat to which the crops are exposed. This is especially true in nurseries and during the planting of seedlings.

BY SCREENING, YOU GET

01
Optimal climate at all times

The system provides shading and evenly distributes light. It helps to retain some of the heat inside, improving the climate for your plants and saving energy.

02
Reduced risk of plant burn

Active dispersion of sunlight reduces plant temperature.

03
More uniform growth

All plants receive an equal amount of light.

04
Comfortable atmosphere

Climate screens create a pleasant atmosphere, which is very important if you use the greenhouse as a garden center. Screening creates comfort for customers, encouraging them to make purchases.

05
More intense colors

Diffused light contributes to the cultivation of more saturated colors.

06
Faster growth

Higher quality plants thanks to diffused light.

WITH SCREENING, YOU EXPERIENCE

MORNING

Evenly diffused light provides a bright start to the day for both people and plants.

NOON

Comfortable temperature for customers and greenhouse staff.

AFTERNOON

Pleasant shade and coolness on hot days.

EVENING

Heat is retained inside during low external temperatures, saving energy.

The screening system is one of the important equipment systems of a modern greenhouse. This system is also referred to as shading because it acts like a screen, protecting you and your greenhouse from all sides.

Screening allows for the regulation of light levels, temperature, humidity, and can significantly save on heating. Screening screens are special greenhouse fabrics used for:

1. Air overheating reduction:
During periods of excessive solar radiation, fabrics shade the plants. There are many types of fabrics, and you can choose the degree of shading that suits your plants. Shading options can be selected ranging from 10% to 100%.
2. Heat loss reduction:
It is very convenient that fabrics have energy-saving properties. Each fabric has its own degree of energy saving - from 15% to 70%.
3. Light diffusion:
No matter what plants you grow, you want the light to be as "diffuse" as possible, that is, scattered. Screens evenly scatter sunlight on the surface and inside plants, speeding up their growth and promoting the development of healthy and uniform produce. Diffuse light creates a favorable shade, allowing light to penetrate deep into the entire plant surface, improving photosynthesis and increasing yield throughout the greenhouse.

TWO TYPES OF SCREENING SYSTEMS

There are two types of screening systems: horizontal and vertical. Their combination in your greenhouse yields the desired result.

Horizontal (Top) System

The horizontal system is the "leading" system that allows you to regulate the microclimate. It is installed under the roof and attached to the greenhouse trusses.

Horizontal shading is provided in each span between the lower beams of the greenhouse trusses, ensuring complete coverage of the roof of the greenhouse. The design of the shading mechanism allows the screen to move simultaneously in all spans from the motor, kinetically linked to rack and pinion reducers or a system of tensioning ropes on reels.

Depending on your preferences, you can plan for a double or even triple shading system, combining the functions of different fabrics. In this case, one screen is located on the upper belt of the trusses, and the second one is on the lower belt.

Vertical System

The vertical system is designed to complement the functions of the horizontal fabric and achieve the desired results. This system is installed on the side and end walls of the greenhouse spans.

The installation of these systems is specially designed so that when folded, they are completely invisible.

The screens open and close as needed manually or in automatic mode from the greenhouse microclimate control system.

When you use both systems, you have complete control over the process because all four walls of the greenhouse and the roof are under your control!

In conclusion, we would like to emphasize once again that shading is one of the most important systems in your industrial greenhouse. It allows you to protect your plants when it's hot and save money when it's cold.

Special greenhouse fabrics (screens) are used for shading. By combining properties such as shading and energy conservation, you control the degree of functionality you want to achieve:

  • Heat cost savings
  • Comfortable atmosphere
  • Protection from overheating
  • Aesthetic appearance

2COMMERCIAL GREENHOUSE SCREENING

COMMERCIAL GREENHOUSE SCREENING

     You have everything you need

The purpose of the screening system is light diffusion, shading, and energy conservation. These are the properties of greenhouse films and polycarbonate.

During the summer months, there is a lot of direct sunlight. If plants are not protected, photosynthesis and other plant growth processes stop. When the temperature of the surrounding environment and tissues becomes very high, all the water consumed by the plant is used to cool the plant tissue.

PLASTIC FILM AND/OR POLYCARBONATE SERVE AS SHADING AGENTS:

01
Optimal climate at any time

The diffusing properties of the film help reduce plant temperatures.

02
Reduced risk of plant sunburn

All plants receive equal amounts of light.

03
More uniform growth

Higher-quality plants due to diffused light.

04
More intense colors

Diffused light promotes the cultivation of richer colors.

Diffused light creates favorable shade, allowing light to penetrate deep into the entire plant surface, enhancing photosynthesis and increasing yield throughout the greenhouse.

DOUBLE FILM AND POLYCARBONATE AS GREENHOUSE COVER

ADVANTAGE

Polycarbonate and film diffuse sunlight when entering the greenhouse, which promotes accelerated growth and the development of healthy and uniform produce.

Compared to a glass greenhouse without shading, double film and polycarbonate are up to 40% more energy-efficient.

DISADVANTAGE

Despite the energy-saving properties of these materials of up to 40%, it should be noted that the main growing season is the autumn-spring period. Due to the high shading, these greenhouses are suitable for warm-season cultivation when heat loss is less critical. The lack of light in the greenhouse does not allow for cultivation during winter, early spring, and late autumn.

Screening is not an effective system for commercial greenhouses covered with polycarbonate or film, as these materials are energy-efficient and shading by nature.

Experience has shown that film projects with shading systems have not actually used them. The only exception is the cultivation of chrysanthemums and orchids, for which complete shading is necessary regardless of the type of greenhouse.
